Chael Sonnen: 'I'm not on the anti-Bisping bandwagon, I never have been'

by Jesse Holland on Jan 18, 2012 10:26 AM EST in Upcoming UFC Events Maybe he just doesn't like Brazilians. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight contender Chael Sonnen, known for his quick wit and merciless trash talk, may be heading into his second straight fight with nothing bad to say about his opponent. Go figure. Sonnen was paired off with American war hero Brian Stann at UFC 136, choosing to pay his respects to the chiseled super-soldier before and after wiping the floor with him inside the cage. It was a far cry from the pro-wrestling style verbal attack fans had grown accustomed to in his rage against the 185-pound machine, calling division kingpin Anderson Silva every name in the book following a fifth round submission loss to "The Spider" at UFC 117 back in August 2010. Fans began licking their chops when it was announced that Michael Bisping, who is about as popular with Americans as Sonnen is with Brazilians, would be stepping in to replace an ...

UFC on FOX 2 odds: Chael Sonnen (-450) and Chris Weidman (-200) open as favorites

by Jesse Holland on Jan 18, 2012 12:31 PM EST in UFC Odds The UFC on FOX 2 odds and betting lines have been readjusted for the recent fight card switcherooni, one that saw Michael Bisping move up to fight Chael Sonnen and Chris Weidman jump in to battle Demian Maia. Those changes were brought about following the injury to Mark Munoz, who is no longer competing on the FOX televised event, scheduled for Jan. 28, 2012, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Sonnen jumped out to a whopping -450 favorite according to Bodog, which may be attributed to his high level wrestling-based attack, coupled with Bisping's perceived lack of finishing power. Or maybe the bookies just don't like "The Count," who limps in as a +325 underdog. While that line may curve toward the high side, it's not the head-scratcher that Weidman vs. Maia appears to be. Despite just seven professional fights, Weidman is a -200 favorite over Maia (+160), which is surprising, considering that Wei...

Chael Sonnen returns to Canadian TV, calls out Jon Jones

Just before the holiday weekend, UFC contender and first class heel Chael Sonnen returned to "Off the Record," the Canadian television show that saw Sonnen storm off the set during his last appearance. Though this appearance wasn't as eventful, Sonnen still delivered another classic interview. It's worth watching the entire 12-minute clip, but if you're crunched for time, watch the beginning two minutes to see Sonnen and host Michael Landsberg discuss Sonnen's last appearance, then skip to the nine-minute mark to hear Sonnen call out UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones. Jones responded via Twitter, "Someone tell Chael he knows where I'll be waiting." Landsberg also calls out Sonnen's act as the interview draws to a close, which appears to flummox the self-described champ. Would you like to see Sonnen take on Jones?
